Position Overview

The Controller at Out of the Box Technology is a key financial leader responsible for overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role ensures the integrity of financial information, provides strategic insights, and supports the company's growth through sound financial management. The Controller will also play a critical role in process improvement, systems optimization, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Accounting Operations

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management.
  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closes and reporting.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, providing insights and recommendations to the CFO and executive team.
  • Implement and maintain robust accounting policies and procedures in compliance with GAAP.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Analysis

  • Support the CFO in developing and managing budgets, forecasts, and financial models.
  • Analyze financial trends and variances, offering strategic recommendations to improve financial performance.
  • Monitor cash flow and working capital to optimize liquidity and financial health.

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Establish and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Manage audits, tax filings, and compliance requirements, liaising with external auditors and tax advisors.
  • Ensure adherence to financial reporting standards and evolving regulatory requirements.

Process Improvement & Systems Optimization

  • Evaluate and enhance accounting systems, tools, and workflows to increase efficiency and scalability.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial reporting accuracy and operational effectiveness.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor and train finance staff to support professional growth and build organizational capability.
  • Partner cross-functionally to support company objectives and enhance financial decision-making.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA or CMA strongly preferred.
  • Experience: 7–10 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, including leadership roles.
  • Industry Knowledge: Experience in technology, professional services, or franchising is a plus.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar ERP platforms).
  • Analytical Ability: Skilled in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Leadership & Communication: Proven ability to lead teams, influence stakeholders, and clearly communicate financial information.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive, detail-oriented mindset.
