Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist the Level I Pharmacy Technician accurately prepares and labels medications, fills automated dispensing devices, squad boxes, code trays and replaces floorstock. The Level I Pharmacy Technicians fills and exchanges patient-specific medication supplies, monitoring for returned and discontinued medications, as well as restocking storage bins and facilitating requests for re-ordering drugs and supplies. The technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and clean work environment and communicating in support of Valley Health values. Responsibilities and Duties include delivering appropriate quantities to Pyxis stations and ancillary departments, charging for controlled substances using daily accountability records, delivering all meds in a timely fashion, reviewing and resolving all Pyxis discrepancies, reporting unresolved discrepancies to supervisor, determining medication discrepancies by inspecting MAR form, reviewing patient chart or consulting nurse, completing cart exchange & flow-sheets timely, processing flow-sheet changes in computer system with pharmacist verification, crediting IVs as indicated, communicating workload status to team members and pharmacist-on-duty, coordinating work and meal breaks, replacing and charging for emergency medications, checking expiration dates, fulfilling floorstock requests, restocking storage bins daily, requesting reorder of drugs and supplies, maintaining cleanliness of department and work areas, maintaining equipment, selecting and labeling ordered medications for pharmacist check, preparing oral adult, NICU and pediatric preparations into unit dose packaging, documenting compounding and prepacking activities, answering telephone calls with customer service skills, triaging calls, assigning priorities to med orders, verifying medication supply to patient floors, screening for discontinued medications, managing cartfill and facilitating pharmacist QA checks. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Experience: Previous pharmacy experience preferred. Certification & Licensures: Valid Virginia Pharmacy Technician Certification or obtain within 9 months of hire required or valid Virginia Pharmacy Intern Certification required. Qualifications: Must meet complete competencies and be eligible for training for Level II Technician within 2080 hours of employment at Valley Health. Criminal background check required.
